A Bit About Us

Solid Gold first opened its doors in April 1979 in what was then Central Precinct the site of the current St. Elli Centre. When that was demolished to make way for the new centre the business relocated undercover in 1994 at 1 Market Precinct adjacent to the Market Hall. After successfully trading there for a further 16 years the opportunity arose in 2010 to move to much larger premises over two floors at 5 Stepney Precinct. This move has proved to be a great success with the business going from strength to strength helped by both expanded footwear and formal wear departments alongside its usual strong casual wear offer.
Many people are curious that the business doesn’t have an online trading facility, this is actually one of the main reasons for the business’s success. Rather than relying on the impersonal ‘click and collect’ mantra of online trading the owners have built strong personal relationships with their customers knowing many of them on first name terms. This keen interest has resulted in their clients trusting their expertise and judgement gained over 40 years of trading to provide them with first class customer service alongside a quality product.

MEET THE OWNERS

– STEVE & BEN (Father & Son)

Solid Gold is run by father and son team Steve and Ben Geach. Steve, as stated earlier, started trading in 1979 ( but hates to admit it as it indicates how old he is !! ) Ben joined the business in 2000 and they have worked together harmoniously ( well most of the time !! ) since then. A natural flair for choosing the right product and an awareness of their customers requirements has resulted in them taking the business forward. They are constantly analysing trends and movement in the fashion industry as well as investigating and applying new and refreshing ways to market and promote the business..

Thanks to the loyalty of their large customer base they intend to continue to do so for many years to come.
